Team Overview
General
Kazakhstan have appeared at every Asian Games since their debut in 1998, and won their only medal in 2010 in Guangzhou. At the 2010 Games they were defeated 3-0 by the Republic of Korea at the semifinal stage, but bounced back to claim a comfortable 3-0 win over the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in the bronze medal match.
They have been beaten quarterfinalists at the last two editions of the Games. At Incheon 2014 they lost 3-0 to Thailand in the last eight and eventually finished sixth. In Indonesia in 2018 they again lost 3-0 at the quarterfinal stage, this time to Japan. Classification round victories against the Philippines and Vietnam secured fifth place, which represents Kazakhstan's second-highest finish at the Asian Games.
The Kazakhstani team won one medal at the Asian championship in 11 appearances between 1993 and 2019, claiming silver in 2005 after defeat in the final to the People's Republic of China. At the 2019 edition they did not progress from a second round group containing the People's Republic of China, Japan, and Indonesia, and ranked fifth overall. The team won the third place play-off match at the Asian Cup in 2012 and 2014, and followed that up with their best finish at the tournament in 2016, when they were beaten finalists against the Chinese team.
Kazakhstan have made one appearance at the Olympic Games, exiting the tournament at the group stage in 2008 in Beijing. They have competed at the world championship five times since 2006, and lost all five of their pool matches on their most recent appearance in 2022.
