Team Overview

General
The Republic of Korea have battled it out with the People's Republic of China in the final of each edition of the Asian Games since the event was introduced at the 2002 Games. The Chinese team emerged victorious from the first three finals [2002, 2006, and 2010], but the Koreans gained a measure of revenge by taking the gold medal at the 2014 and 2018 Games.

At the Asian championships the Republic of Korea have won five gold medals since 2003, with two of those coming at the 2022 and 2023 editions of the tournament. They defeated Japan in the final in 2022 and most recently overcame hosts the People's Republic of China 45-40 at the 2023 Asian Championships in Wuxi.

The Korean team went without a medal at the world championships until beginning a run of three consecutive podium finishes with silver in 2017. They then went on to claim world championship bronze in 2018 and 2019. They secured another bronze medal in 2023 in Milan, where they were beaten by eventual champions Hungary 45-39 at the semifinal stage before defeating Ukraine in the third place play-off.

The Republic of Korea won their first Olympic medal at Tokyo 2020, claiming bronze with a 45-42 victory over Italy in the third place bout. They were ranked fifth on their debut at the 2016 Games after losing to Ukraine in the quarterfinals.
