NOC Overview
Mongolia has won at least one gold medal at every edition of the Asian Games in which it has participated. Its most successful sports at the Games are freestyle wrestling and judo, with more than half of the NOC's medals coming from the two sports. No Mongolian athlete in any sport has managed to win more than one Asian Games gold medal.
At the 2014 Games in Incheon, women's shooter Gundegmaa Otryad became the first Mongolian athlete to win six Asian Games medals. Otryad has never secured gold, but made at least one podium at every edition between 1998 and 2014. Otryad is also one of three Mongolian athletes, alongside fellow women's shooter Munkhzul Tsogbadrakh and men's archer Gantugs Jantsan, to have competed at six editions of the Asian Games.
Mongolia recorded its highest medal tally at a single edition of the Asian Games in 2018. It claimed a total of 24 medals in Indonesia, including four golds. Freestyle wrestler Bekhbayar Erdenebat won the men's 57kg category, while sambo wrestler Narantsetseg Ganbaatar triumphed in the women's 48kg division. In addition, boxer Erdenebat Tsendbaatar was victorious in the men's lightweight division, and shooter Nandinzaya Gankhuyag won gold in the women's 50m rifle 3 positions in Indonesia. Gankhuyag also claimed bronze in women's 10m air rifle to become the NOC's only multi-medallist at the 2018 Games.
