He was originally introduced to the taolu [choreographed routines] discipline of wushu, but he became increasingly interested in the sanda [combat] discipline. At first he was denied access to sanda training due to his age, but eventually his coaches relented due to his persistence. "When I was young, I didn't have any idea about the word love. I just felt that sanda was addictive, a large group of people trained together and exchanged ideas with each other. Now I really fell in love with martial arts and sanda."
