Team Overview

General
Chinese Taipei won bronze at the 2018 Asian Games, which was their third bronze medal in eight appearances since 1966. In Indonesia they lost their opening match 3-2 to the Republic of Korea, but beat Nepal in their other pool game. They then defeated Saudi Arabia 3-1 in the first knockout round and received a bye in the last eight. In the semifinals they again lost 3-2 to the Republic of Korea, but bounced back to claim a 3-1 bronze medal match victory over Qatar.

The Chinese Taipei team won their first Asian Games medal in 1970 after they finished third in the round-robin competition in Bangkok. They did not compete again for 28 years but won a second medal on their return, again in Bangkok. At the 1998 Games they beat Japan in the third place play-off after losing their semifinal to the People's Republic of China.

The Chinese Taipei team won both of their classification pool matches at the 2022 Asian Cup in Thailand to end the tournament ranked ninth out of 11 teams. Their best performances at the tournament came in 2010, 2016, and 2018, when they lost the bronze medal match on each occasion.

Chinese Taipei finished fourth at the 2021 Asian Championship, which matched their best result from 19 appearances at the tournament between 1983 and 2021. The 2021 edition saw them win five of six matches in the two pool rounds, before hosts Japan beat them 3-1 at the semifinal stage. They then lost the third place match against the People's Republic of China.

The team made their only world championship appearance in 1986. They twice competed in the now-defunct World League, with a highest finish of 28th in 2016.
