MOVE TO SPAIN
After she won the girls' title at the 2018 Les Petits As in Tarbes, France, as a wildcard, she was spotted by talent scouts from the Rafa Nadal Academy in Manacor, Spain. She then moved to train at the academy at age 13. "A huge step was when I moved to Spain to train in the academy. I had to get out of the country. I was happy at home, but the Philippines tennis scene is not very developed, so I needed the chance to play matches and tournaments against better players in order to get better. It's a really good environment [at the Rafa Nadal Academy], everyone works hard, you really have to push yourself but you get the rewards. And Rafa himself is there a lot. He hits with the boys more than the girls, but he always says hello to all the players, and he has been very nice to me." (olympics, 05 Oct 2022; babolat, 27 Sep 2022)
