Additional Information

General
NEARLY DROWNED
She almost drowned in 2008 when her boat capsized during a training session on West Lake in Hanoi, Vietnam. As she was leaving the course, her boat overturned. She yelled for help and was rescued by teammates, but needed a week off training to recover. She had kept secret the fact that she was a poor swimmer as team regulations required that members were able to swim. Team officials sent her for swimming lessons after the incident. RETIREMENT AND RETURN
In 2017 she decided to retire from competitive sport due to an injury. Initially she planned to work as a coach at her hometown of Thai Binh in Vietnam. She decided to return to compete at the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia, where she won gold in the women's lightweight quadruple sculls. "When I was injured, I gave up the sport to stay at home to take care of my family and focus on being a mother, because I went to competitions all the time, so I kept procrastinating. However, at the beginning of 2018, my coaches persuaded me, saying that the rowing team was short of people, so when my son was six months old, I took him to Hanoi and began training again."
