Team Overview
General
The Republic of Korea made their Asian Games debut in 2010 in Guangzhou, where they lost both of their preliminary round matches in heavy defeats to India and the Islamic Republic of Iran. Their performances at the Asian Games have improved dramatically since then, with the Korean team securing podium finishes in 2014 and 2018.
They were beaten by India in the semifinals as hosts of the 2014 Asian Games and shared the bronze medal with Pakistan, while at the 2018 Games in Indonesia they made it all the way to the final. Having won all four of their group matches in 2018, which included inflicting India's first defeat at any edition of the Asian Games, they beat Pakistan 27-24 in the semifinals. Facing the Islamic Republic of Iran in the final, the Korean team had to settle for silver after losing 26-16.
At the 2016 World Cup [international format], the team topped their group by winning all five of their matches. However, the Koreans were unable to overcome the Islamic Republic of Iran in the semifinals and had to share third place with Thailand.
