Team Overview
General
Uzbekistan's golden moment at the Asian Games came when they won the title on their debut in 1994 in Hiroshima. The Uzbekistani team had a 100% record at the tournament, scoring 23 goals across their seven matches, including a 4-2 victory over the People's Republic of China in the final.
Since their triumph in 1994, Uzbekistan have taken part in all six subsequent editions of the Asian Games, but they have not advanced past the quarterfinal stage. In 2018 in Indonesia, they topped their group with three wins to progress to the round of 16, where they overcame Hong Kong, China 3-0. They were eliminated in a thrilling quarterfinal against eventual champions the Republic of Korea, losing 4-3 after extra-time.
Uzbekistan won the AFC U23 championship in 2018, defeating Vietnam 2-1 after extra-time in the final. They were unable to defend their title two years later, losing to Saudi Arabia in the semifinals and then to Australia in the bronze medal match. As hosts of the 2022 AFC U23 Asian Cup, they returned to the final, overcoming Iraq in a penalty shoot-out in the last eight and Japan 2-0 in the semifinals. However, the Uzbekistani hopes of another title were ended once again by Saudi Arabia, who triumphed 2-0 in the final.
