FAMILY SPORT
His father Soh Goon Chup played badminton at national level in Malaysia and his uncle Soo Beng Kiang played the sport at international level. He says the pair have both helped and offered advice during his career. "My father gives me some advice, but mostly encourages and motivates me. My uncle often follows my matches. Whenever I reach the quarterfinals or semifinals, he'd text me some advice like how I should play, how I can win the match or how I can perform better. Some media would ask me about them. It does not add pressure on me because I regard them as my idols. I work hard to be better than them and treat them as my role models." (thestar.com.my, 28 May 2021; BadmintonWorld.tv, 01 Jul 2020)
DOUBLES PARTNER
He teamed up with men's doubles partner Aaron Chia in 2017. "We're a duo so we train together and we're always shouting and having fun. It's different from training as a singles player, which is very boring. We're always communicating with each other on the court, and when one of us hits a critical shot, we cheer each other on. Aaron is really funny. Between us, he's the joker for sure." (tatlerasia.com, 02 Dec 2022; utusan.com.my, 02 Aug 2021)
