MOVE TO FRANCE
In December 2021 he relocated to France in order to work with French coach Damien Inocencio. "Ever since we met eight years ago [speaking in 2022], I've always wanted to be coached [by Inocencio]." (rikujyokyogi, 13 Mar 2022, 10 Jul 2023)

OLYMPIC REDEMPTION
After failing to register a valid jump at either of his previous Olympic appearances in 2012 and 2016, he said clearing 5.30m at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo was an important moment in his career. "When I crossed the traumatic Olympic bar for the first time I was filled with relief and joy. Considering the height alone, it wasn't a satisfactory result, but it was a great and valuable leap in my competitive life." He had previously considered quitting the sport after his disappointing performances at the Olympic Games in 2012 and 2016, but he was encouraged to continue by one of his coaches. "I was moved at once by his words, which gave me a glimpse of a future where we would walk together. Then I decided to try a little harder." (school, 01 Nov 2022)
