He switched from running to race walking in 2018. He initially wanted to become a marathon runner after being inspired by Indian athletes at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. "It was the 2012 Olympics, and sports were in the limelight. A senior told me, 'You can make a career in sport', and I started training on a track." (hindustantimes, 04 Oct 2022; pib, 04 Oct 2022)
