"I realised the best runs I've had and the records I've broken in the past, I had no idea I was going to break them and it just happens. I was more focused on the process rather than on the outcome. It was the biggest thing for me because if you do the little things right, ultimately, you will get whatever results you want. A lot of times, you screw up the outcome just because you're so focused on what's going to happen and in the end, it's the process that matters more." (mens-folio, 21 Mar 2023)

Additional Information

General
OLD RECORD BROKEN
In 2014 he broke a 40-year-old Singapore national record for the 400m event while he was still a junior. He ran the distance in 47.29 seconds, beating the previous national record of 47.4 seconds set by Godfrey Jallah in 1974. In 2018 he said that breaking the record had resulted in him feeling added pressure as a young athlete. "You get caught up in trying to get better because people expect things from you. For example, before I broke the record, no one was talking about the South East Asian Games, let alone being a potential medallist. Then after I broke the record, and it was like, 'This guy can win'. Thinking back, all that did play on my mind. I was inexperienced, I didn't know how to handle the pressure as well." (straitstimes, 07 Aug 2018, 17 Jun 2017)

STUDYING OVERSEAS
In 2017 he received a partial athletics scholarship to study at Indiana University Bloomington in the United States of America. He went on to study for a master's degree in public affairs at the same university. "Living the double life of a student and an NCAA Division I athlete has equipped me with various skills and the ability to deal with high pressured, high stake situations." (Instagram profile, 13 May 2023; straitstimes, 12 May 2017; LinkedIn profile, 01 May 2017)

FROM INDIA TO SINGAPORE
He and his parents moved from India to Singapore when he was a young child. (asiaone, 29 Aug 2014)
