Team Overview

General
Mongolia fell just short of reaching the knockout stages at the inaugural Asian Games 3x3 tournament in 2018, which was played as an U23 competition. Although they were emphatically beaten 22-1 by Japan in their first pool game, they recovered to overcome Nepal 12-11. In a decisive final group match against Chinese Taipei, the Mongolian side failed to secure a quarterfinal place after they fell to a 21-10 defeat.

The Mongolians appeared at the U23 World Cup in 2018, 2019, and 2022. During that period the furthest they progressed at the tournament was the quarterfinals, losing to Belarus at that stage at the 2019 edition in Lanzhou.

The senior Mongolian team were runners-up at the inaugural Asia Cup in 2013, losing 21-14 to India in the final. They have competed at all five editions of the tournament to have taken place since then, and came closest to a return to the podium in 2019 when they lost the third place match 21-14 to Japan. At the 2023 Asia Cup in Singapore, they were knocked out at the quarterfinal stage by the People's Republic of China.

At the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, the side made history as the first Mongolians to compete in a team sport at the Olympic Games. They ultimately lost all their matches and ranked last out of the eight participants. Mongolia were also winless on their senior World Cup debut in 2019, placing 17th. They did qualify for the last 16 at the 2022 World Cup in Antwerp, but a 21-9 defeat to France ended their tournament.
